The 33d Grand Polemarch of Kappa Alpha Psi, Brother Thomas Battles established the Commission on Military & Veterans Affairs to provide recognition, outreach and support to serving military members, veterans and their families. Programs will be executed throughout the year and at the bi-annual Grand Chapter Conclave. Additionally, working closely with federal, state and county agencies will greatly enable the Commission to assist service members and veterans in our Fraternity to attain their well-earned benefits and support from other programs. As we expand our capabilities, the Commission also will build upon or develop programs to recognize serving military members and veterans in the Fraternity for their military service and continued public service in their local communities. Concurrently, the Commission will provide assistance and support to family members of Kappa Alpha Psi members called to active duty as well family members of those who have served..
As the focal point for support of Kappa Alpha Psi military members’ and veterans’ interests and benefits, the Commission will go a long way towards establishing a pathway for promoting our leadership continuum amongst existing Kappa Alpha Psi National programs, i.e. Guide Right, Undergraduate Leadership Institute and Kappa League. Lastly, the Commission will actively engage in spearheading world class programs that support the Conclaves and other significant events that will enable members of the Fraternity to receive magnificent support for their years of dedicated and loyal service to our great Nation! The Commission’s supporting goals and objectives are as follows:

• Provide outreach to veterans who are members of the organizations through Benefits Awareness Fairs and Town Hall Meetings.

Serve as an information resource station, providing pamphlets and booklets on various state and federal benefits programs.

• Promote Chapter involvement through community outreach targeted towards Veterans Services Organizations and groups in local communities.

• Conduct fund raising events to support programs and initiatives for Kappa Alpha Psi veterans and their family members.

• Elevate the level of participation of and for the Fraternity’s active duty members and veterans at the fraternity Bi-Annual National Conference starting in 2017!

• Create an active partnership with the Armed Forces, Veterans Affairs, Veterans Services Organizations, corporate entities and communities to obtain support for Kappa Alpha Psi program initiatives.

• Develop a model and guidelines for incorporating military leadership and discipline principles into existing Kappa Alpha Psi Leadership Programs.

• Develop programs and activities to inform Brothers about VA benefits and services available to improve their quality of life.
